My week at Leader Dog for the Blind

I got the chance to take a week long mobility training course in Michigan. I was able to stay on the campus of Leader dogs for the Blind. I went there Sunday and got back Friday night. It was fun to spend some time away from home and meet great people. There was only one other person in the O and M class and the rest of the people were in the guide dog class for that month. It was cool to see someone working with there dog so close up and seeing how they were working threw their bonding. During the week for me was very busy because I had mobility in the morning before lunch and after lunch before dinner. I was able to learn cardinal directions better. I was not so good at them. I also was able to get a new tip on my cane that gets caught on so much less and also gives me better information while walking. I really liked Friday because I was able to do a short walk with a dog to see if I really liked it and to see how it was to walk with a guide dog. The guy that was in the mobility program was very interesting because he only went blind two years before I did but he also lives in Texas where there are not many sidewalks. He also has a whole bunch of horses and cattle so that was very cool to me. I believe I made a good friend in him and will do my best to keep in contact with him. I really enjoyed my week at Leader Dog and hope to go back and get a guide dog soon. O before I forget I also got some Leader dog memorabilia like shirts and a sweater. I also got a key chain and a cool bracelet that has a small paw on it.
